Schools

MUSE had originally planned on presenting BVMNH to various PTOs and local public schools as a way to help gain interest and inform local children about various opportunities, such as birthday parties or puppet shows, that the museum has to offer.
Andrew contacted the PTOs and found out that they were enthusiastic, but did not really have time available for us to present. Andrew and Jessie also began contacting schools, but found it hard to reach the appropriate people through both email and calling the schools.
After talking with the museum, we decided to switch to private schools because there should be a lot less red tape to go through. We started making contact with them and are hopeful that we can get something set up!

World Fest

Last Saturday, the 13, MUSE helped BVMNH with World Fest. World Fest is an event where different international organizations represented their country and provide guests with information, demonstrations, and even samples.
BVMNH also had a booth and we got to go and help them pass out flyers and promote the space shuttle project and the museum. We talked to a lot of people and really promoted interest. It was also exciting to see people get excited about BVMNH’s plans. It was a great way to promote outreach!

MUSE Gets Silly

Last week, MUSE had to present a chapter of the BUSN 205 book to the class. We met up the night before to practice our presentation and finish up the power point. During the practice, MUSE let their silly slide show.
Avery and Pam spent most of the rehearsal hula hooping with some hula hoops in the room. Avery impressed everybody with her ability to hula hoop for several minutes at a time with two hoops. She would’ve been able to hula hoop with more, but the only hoops left were square hoops, which are a lot harder than normal hoops.
Kyle, was typical Kyle, and played with the pointer laser all night long. Andrew spent the whole time practicing how to pronounce the German word for German “deutsch” with the help of Pam. Divin decided to record everybody. Jessie sat in the back typing up the handout and spent most of the time complaining about how unused to Macs she was.
Mid-way through the meeting, Kyle decided to pull up YouTube videos to watch. He first started off with a really depressing video, which most of the group didn’t appreciate. To make up for it, Avery suggested that we watch a video about Christian the lion. Afterwards, the group decided to watch the Bedroom Intruder video and the song. Andrew wanted to find a way to incorporate it into the presentation.
Despite all of this, MUSE was still able to practice and the presentation went smoothly. And yes, Andrew was able to incorporate the Bedroom Intruder as an example in the presentation.

And We’re Off!

MUSE has obtained project approval! We are now able to officially begin working with The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History!
We will begin with marketing BVMNH to local schools, hopefully through the PTOs. We also post flyers in all of the libraries on campus and local public libraries as well. In addition, we will create table tents for marketing on campus.
Avery and Kyle are working on awesome flyers for our marketing project! Be on the lookout for them!
MUSE will also be setting up profit shares soon to help raise money for BVMNH’s advertising fund. Time and place are not finalized as of right now, but be on the lookout for further information!
Visit their Facebook page and become a fan of BVMNH!

Project Proposal

To gain approval to work with BVMNH, MUSE had to submit a written project proposal and give a project presentation to the class.
Yesterday, we gave our presentation. In the presentation we explained our agency, why we wanted to work with them, and how we planned on helping them. We also gave a timeline of events and addressed any risks that might occur.
The presentation went smoothly! Our late night practice session really helped! The only problem was that the remote to change the power point slides stopped working. It ended up not being too bad of a problem; it just messed with our positioning a little bit.
With our written proposal, we really learned a lesson on time management. We broke the proposal into sections, with each person taking a section and set a due date to be submitted to Pam so that she could combine the paper and then we could all edit it. Unfortunately, several members were unable to submit their section on time which meant that Pam was unable to send it out early like we had planned. The consequence of this was that several members made revisions late into the night and there ended up being two versions! We were able to sort it out by the time class started, but we then found out that our proposal wasn’t due until a week later, when we actually presented! But that was ok. We didn’t have to worry about it anymore since it was done and we learned a valuable lesson.
